Sailing on the Great South Bay Since 1998 The Fall Series

The Dinghy Shop's annual Fall Series sailing program has been a Long Island tradition since 1998, offering sailors of all levels fun and a competitive way to extend their season. Held each weekend through the fall, the series brings together local sailors for exciting one-design racing on the Great South Bay. It's a relaxed, welcoming event focused on good racing, great company, and keeping the sailing spirit alive as the weather cools.

 Optimist Racing The Fall Series includes a dedicated Optimist fleet, giving young sailors a fun and supportive environment to build skills and confidence on the water. With short courses and plenty of racing, it's a great way for kids to stay active and engaged in sailing through the autumn months. Are beginners ok to race in the series?

We do encourage newer sailors to join the Fall Series. If you have the basics of boat control down we can help you learn the rest with pre race chalk talks, on water coaching (Optimists), and post race wrap ups to cover everything that went on during the day.
Can we leave our our boat at the sailing center for all 6 weeks?

Yes, full series registrants may leave their boat at the sailing center for the duration of the Fall Series. We do ask that boats that are left on site are on dollies and have top covers.
What time do we need to arrive for sailing?

Saturday Laser Sailing: The sailing center opens at 10am with a 12pm Harbor Start.

Sunday Optimist / Sunfish Sailing: The sailing center opens at 11am with an Optimist Harbor Start at 1pm and Sunfish at 1:15pm.
What time does racing end?

Saturday Laser Sailing: No races will begin after 4pm.

Sunday Optimist & Sunfish Sailing: No races will begin after 3:30pm
Do we need any special gear for Fall sailing?

Typically you can start and sail most of the series in the same gear you've had all summer long. If it does get a little chillier you may want to bring some warmer gear - spray top, spray pants, neoprene, etc - but this is not a requirement as long as you're comfortable on the water.
