This Optimist Vectran boom vang from Optiparts is spliced on one end. This line is designed to be tied around the boom, with the spliced loop hanging. Sailors use a fatter line (1/4" or 6mm) tied through the spliced loop and lead through the vang jam cleat on the mast. The fatter line gives you better grip in the hand while the thinner vectran is low stretch.
